I am not a big drinker. Occasionally I will enjoy a glass of Sangria with dinner, but otherwise, I could care less. To me drinks don't taste good and just add empty calories to my diet. How can I go out and enjoy a dinner with friends without them constantly hounding me to drink? I mean come on, I am 27 and that phase passed me at 22. Why the need to always get drunk? Can't one enjoy dinner with a glass of wine and stay sober?

Sounds like you need to be around more people that respect your opinion, if they are really your friends and care about you they would respect your likes and dislikes and it would not bother them, let them know firmly once and for all what your preferences are, and if they continue then they are not the kind of people you should be having as friends.

If I'm not in the mood for drinking when I'm out with my friends I usually just say that I prefer to drink water with my meal but may have a glass of wine with dessert. This works because most of the time everyone's too full for dessert or has drank too much after the first course to care about what I said before!

some people have a longing to be drunk. some people think that they're having more funn when their drunk. Their actually binge drinking which is actually very unhealthy. If your friends keep on hounding you to drink you need to make the decision to leave if you feel too under the pressure.

Yes, it's annoying when you're out to dinner with people who drink more than you do and they bother you about it. The best thing to do is order one glass of wine and nurse it, and drink lots of water. If anyone says something, just make a joke out of it and say you're a "cheap date."

Seems that if your friends are hounding you to get DRUNK and not simply join them in a drink at dinner then you need to get more mature friends.

I'm with you too. My strategy is to have my one enjoyable drink, then switch to Perrier or fizzy water with lime for the rest of the night. They thank me in the end when they realize there's still a designated driver and they don't need to pay cabs.

Just be straightforward. Tell your friends that you are not into drinking, and one drink is fine for you. After you've told them a couple times, they should get the clue...if not, maybe you need to get new friends

Enjoy your sangria, sip it slow, have an ice water, and tell them to move on, that you don't want another drink.

Also, more mature friends could be good too.

You're right. I have the same problem. It's not that I don't like it. I just don't like it that much. I just tell them I'm not in the mood

I agree with you. Your friends just haven't grown up yet apparently.
