For example, I have an insatiable need to eat sunflower seeds, icecream, pickles, and tv dinners. All the time. In fact, I cannot stop eating sunflower seeds. Once I start eating them, it is like trying to tell an alcoholic to stop drinking in mid gulp. What causes this?

I personally think it's psychological. We know that we shouldn't eat certain foods but because it makes us feel good so we eat it anyways. Your addiction to sunflower seeds may only exist because you think you want them or you see them a lot. It could be a bad habit. Stop it cold turkey and don't eat any for 21 days. That's how long it takes to stop a bad habit, which is what an addiction is. After that eat it in minimal amounts. Buy a smaller package.
