If you have a colonoscopy should you be asleep?

I have had two. They give you meds to relax. The first, I fall asleep. The second, I was awake, but really out of it. No pain to speak of.

they give you "versed"...the medication to forget.......you are very much so awake with this procedure and you will be watching the screen on the wall to see exactly what the md is seeing.........the md talks with yoiu throughout the procedure...............by the time you are back in the recovery room...........most..............most of the time, the patient has just a vague feeling of what has happened......as the hours progress......usually forget all that was said or did

They don't put you to sleep, they give you a pain med so you shouldn't feel it but some do fall asleep.

You should be sedated with a hypnotic such as midazolam.. Not always will you be induced, and asleep. But you shouldn't remember it.

I don't know but you ought to insist that the doc uses 2 fingers...... not just one....

I've had two. They put me to sleep for both, so I'm thinking there is a reason they don't want you awake.

Actually, they put you in twilight so you dont feel anything. My husband goes through this every 2 yrs.
