You want to almost broil them.

Heat oven to 450ºF. Combine your de-headed shrimp, butter, garlic, herbs, S&P, lemon slices, a bay leaf or two, whatever, and lay in shallow baking dish. Then put in a high rack in your oven, fairly near the broiler element. Stir after 5 minutes, turning shrimp over at this time. The firs tside should be pinky/peachy/"shrimpy" color. Another 5 or so minutes should do it. Serve w/ fresh French bread for sopping the yummy juices!

Baked Shrimp With Chili-Garlic Butter
Yield: 4 Servings

Ingredients

1 sharron solomon

1 1/2 lb raw shrimp in shells
1/2 c butter
1/4 c vegetable oil
8 cloves garlic -- finely
1 chop
1 to 3 dried de arbol chilies
1 coarsley crumbled*
1 tb fresh lime juice salt
1 green onion tops, slivered
1 for garnish

Instructions

*For milder flavor, seed some or all of the chilies. De Arbol chilies
are usually sold in cellophane packages, along with other Mexican food
specialties. They are a small, slender, almost needle-shaped chilie
with smooth, bright red skin and a very hot flavor. Preheat oven to
400~. Shell and devein shrimp, leaving tails attached; rinse and
drain well. Heat butter and oil in small skillet over medium heat
until butter is melted and foamy. Add garlic, chilies, lime juice and
salt. Cook and stir 1 minute. Remove from heat. Arrange shrimp in
even layer in shallow 2-quart gratin pan or baking dish. Pour hot
butter mixture over shrimp. Bake shrimp 10 to 12 minutes until shrimp
turn opaque, stirring once. Do not overcook or shrimp will be dry and
tough.

Spicy Baked Shrimp
Yield: 4 Servings

Ingredients

1/2 c Macadamia Nut oil; Oils of
-Aloha
2 cloves garlic; minced
2 tb cajun seasoning; or Creole
-seasoning
2 tb fresh lemon juice
1 tb honey
1 tb soy sauce
1 lb large shrimp; shelled and
-deveined
lemon wedges; for garnish
French bread; thinly sliced

Instructions

In a 13 x 9-inch baking dish combine oil, garlic, Cajun seasoning, lemon
juice, honey and soy sauce. Add shrimp and toss to coat. Refrigerate at
least 1 hour. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Bake until shrimp are
cooked through, about 8 to 10 minutes. Garnish with lemon wedges and
serve with French bread.

hmm.... shrimp are delicious at 175 degrees and rubbery at 185 degrees, if i were going to bake shrimp i would bake them on skewers with salt pepper and a light toss of oil on a rack over a sheet pan and broil them for two min or so on one side and one min on the other... grilling or poaching are better for the little guys.
i like them poached in thai yellow curry over rice
