Done therapy via email? I've recently found some...unlimited correspondance for $168 every two weeks. I express myself better in writing, so I think it looks interesting.

Any thoughts? does it actually work?

granted its a valid therapist who respons regularly in a profound way...

I've done regular therapy, and a dozen counsillors later, there is nothing doing...

They have terms and conditions, privacy policies, and failsafe programs on their computer. This is a known and respectable person.

I do, by the way, already journal.

The therepists don't help...all they want to do is put people on drugs.

I don't know if it works but I wouldn't do it. I think that you need to see the person and know them. Don't send them you life story and pay them and you don't even know them.

I think that could probably be a really great tool. I hated going to therapists - I find it difficult to talk to strangers about myself. But writing does help, because there is no face-to-face discussions, and it is often easier to express yourself on paper. However, it may be beneficial to use this tool in conjunction with face to face sessions. That way you can develop a rapport with him/her and use the emails to update. If you are going to do this email thing, just make sure that the person is actually a therapist and has all the appropriate licensing and training. As for the cost, I guess it depends on what a normal therapist would cost you. Good luck!

Well, it sounds like, from your question and your added 'details' to reply to other's advice, you've already made your decision regarding this online therapy.

If you believe you're going to be best served because you'll be able to express yourself better this way, and if you truly believe the person you are going to be relying on for treatment is reliable, then by all means, do it.

If, however, part of your issues involve relationships... I can't help but feel that you should continue the search for someone who can treat you in person and help you grow in your ability to communicate verbally... because relationships are all about communication, or a lack thereof... and people generally have more fulfilling relationships when they talk in person. Not by writing letters.

Go to the dollar store, get a notebook, and start journaling. Then when you go to your therapist you can show them what you have written. $168 for unlimited correspondence, AND WHAT IS THIS PERSON DONG WITH THIS? you don't have any safety net with confidentiality with whoever is on the other end . The HPPA laws are for your protection. You need to have written assurance of PRIVACY and CONFIDENTIALITY
as part of your therapy.

Online/Email therapy can be very effecitve for a lot of people. But if what your going through is severe or if your feeling like you are going to harm yourself or others, you should see someone in person or go to the nearest E.R.

There are some people out there who do not benifit from neither therapy nor medication. (I'm one of them) You just have to have a support system that you can turn to in a time of need and figure things out on your own.

sounds like a rip off to me. That's a lot of money for "internet therapy" and you dont even know if it could even help you. And unlimited to you may be different to someone else. Their "unlimited" could be whenever they feel like getting around to it, so you could be waiting for a responce forever and not getting your money's worth.

I prefer a face to face with my doctor. Group therapy is very helpful.

You can vent and get a response. It could work as long as you don't have a real disorder.
