I may be moving between states in the next month or so, and I plan on taking my car with me. Since I still owe money on it, I don't have a title for it yet. How will I be able to register it with my new state?

You use your current registration and what ever else the new state may require. It is advisable to contact them for this discussion. Also, you may want to read your loan contract. Many of the Non factory supported carlots use financing that does not allow you to leave the state.

It gets complicated. It really depends on the state. Some states will let you register it in the new state with the valid registration only from the previous. If the previous state was one where the DMV holds the title document, they may be able to send it to the new state. The only way to nail this down for sure is to talk to both DMVs. Sorry.

Call your finance company with the change of address before you move and ask for a copy of the lein on the title. Go to DMV in your new State and show the valid registration, it will have the banks name on the lein side. Then apply for an address change for the registration. While you are at it, go to the Post Office and fill out a change of address for where you will be moving to. It takes about 2 weeks to catch up to you at the new address, then you will have a proof of a new permanent address to bring along to the DMV. Take a utility bill with your name and new address on it for verification.

Advise your financial institution that you've moved and they'll send you paperwork to get licence plates in that state. That will register the vehicle in that state.
