I keep heraing people talking about us losing the war in Vietnam. I was under the firm impression that we are on top of the Viet - qeada and are not far from victory. I thought the plan was to move on to Cambodia ASAP.

Sure we killed more people in vietnam then they killed of us but the mission was not accomplished. When we left 'Nam a communist government was still in place. The communist government collapsed about a year after we left.

There was never a plan to go to cambodia too. We did unauthorized bombing missions in cambodia because the north vietnamese were taking the Ho Chi Min trail through cambodia to South Vietnam. This is what got nixon into so much trouble. He told the american people we were not involved with cambodia and then authorized bombing missions there

59,000 American servicemen killed, against an estimated 3 million Vietnamese killed. Playing a purely numbers game, then you would have to say the USA won. However seeing as the US left with there tails between their legs (Saigon renamed to Ho Chi Minh City), you would have to say it was a victory in every other sense, for the NVA/VC.

I thought that really we wasn't involved... I mean like it was a conflict. It was a war between north and south and we just aided the "good side". Which I believe to be alittle F'd up.

I'm not an American - But i've yet to hear of an actual war that they've won... (Apart from using the bomb against the japs). "Nam" should have been easy - but Americans are too cocky... I'm British & I wouldnt want to be infront of American soldiers... Look how many "Friendly" Fire incidents have taken place.. Americans rely on technology - Brits rely on themselves.. (But we've stupid leaders)

We did not lose in vietnam, we pulled out which is way different.. I was watching a documentary on Vietnam and we could have won it with airpower alone.

We withdrew, withdrew equals retreat, retreat equals losing, but it's not a bad thing they haven't had a negative effect on us since other tan our own bickering about it, sounds like something that would work in iraq
