I think that not only do they have a high ego, but can actually be dangerous to society. I believe in God, but I disbelieve in organized religion. I believe that our hearts are the temples we worship God in. Basically, any small group of people who get together to make decisions for a large group of people make me uneasy. If you back one of those fundamentalists into a corner and ask the hard questions like "Why did my Mom die of cancer?" or "Why did my little boy get hit by a car?"....you're going to get "It's God's will" or "the Lord works in mysterious ways". The truth is, they don't know. But they DO know that God wants you to vote Republican, and He's against raising taxes but He's for the defense, and even though it's one of His creations, He desperately hates marijuana. Personally, they just make me nervous.

What is wrong with them thinking they are right? What is the point of being in a religion if you don't think it is the "right" one? It is a very recent idea to believe that everyone will be saved no matter what. I do agree with you that they should not have big egos over it, considering the Bible says that the MEEK will inherit the earth and being humble is a fruit of the spirit.

Doesn't any group though?
Though to answer your question more directly, some Protestant theological systems have "high ego" built in, especially those groups that are Calvinistic and those groups that believe "once saved always saved." It tends to cause them to think that they are better than everyone else because they are "saved". This also influences not only their religious attitudes but also their everyday life as sociological attitudes.
For added edification on the sociological aspect I suggest buying
The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism by Weber (a protestant)

Well, fundys are into the bible so much, that they lose thier perspective at times. They want people to be "Saved", that they sometimes forget good manners and "force" themselves on people, with good intentions.
Though, thier methods may be "forceful" and direct and to the point....being....
"Either you accept CHRIST, or go to Hell"
They forget that only JESUS can put it in your Heart, that you will accept HIM, and that the fundys cant "make" you, or even "give" Salvation, they can only plant "seeds" that will be germinated by the LORD.
They maybe 'high and mighty' because they know they have Salvation, and want EVERYONE to get it..
I applaud thier efforts, in that it may reach a lot of people who wouldnt normally be reached.
I wish you well..
Jesse

I think that you need to rephrase your question. You might as well ask if New Yorkers are jerks, or if people who work at McDonalds are crazy?
I think that you will find people with "high" egos no matter where you look. You need look no further than some of the posts here.

I think you refer to mroe stupidity than ego.
Those radicals don't want ppl go into heaven, they want in comparison to thier self go to Hell. Which makes radicals are more important to thier self.
Most radicals never read the bible ( except few who teaches others). Ask simple QUestions any1 of those from the bible and they would not be able even to tell you.
Of cause responce will be " I know it but i forgot" Its interesting how they forget something they never knew.
Simply ask them who discover empty Jesus tomb and at least 10 commandments.
You get all the asnwers right there:)
Therefore GOD and sunday exists.

i think that people with strong faith sometimes feel as though they know something or have reached a level that the rest of us have not yet gotten to. it can sometimes come across as ego and turn others off to the importance of their message.

first I think that fear rules their beliefs.....and then I think they think they have all of hte answers because they feel they will be rewarded for how many people they convert....
or look down upon....I have found that these people are the ones that really don't care about anyone but themselves.....and they could quote a million bible versus to support their self centeredness
