I'm not a doctor, but I was on adriamycin for six months (I had six cycles of ABVD, so twelve doses) I've even had salvage chemo and high dose chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant since then and the discomfort I felt from my initial chemo is gone, I have no real pain now (and my transplant was just a few weeks ago)

Though every person reacts differently, I would suggest asking your doctor if you are on Adriamycin.

Also, when I was on my chemo, I was given Neulasta shots (sometimes Neupogen is given) that caused pain all over my body. If you are on these shots to keep your counts up, it could be the real source of your pain.

RE:
Can adriamycin (chemo) cause long lasting, chronic, whole-body pain/neuropathy?

I didn't have pain with my adriamycin but it was followed with taxol and it caused severe leg pain, for which I was given medication. I've had what my doctors refer to as "nerve pain" ever since.

Here is how it was explained to me: The chemo actually damages the nerves so that they send erroneous messages to the brain. That you're in pain when you're really not. Ha! The solution for me has been a drug called neurontin (originally prescribed for seizures I think) which I only had to take for a few months. In my case it seemed that the nerves only needed a brief break from the pain (it was in my hands and feet like tendonitis and carpal tunnel) for the situation to resolve itself so I could discontinue the drugs.

However, my plastic surgeon did warn me in advance since I've required several other breast surgeries, that new surgeries can cause nerve pain flare ups. I had a DIEP FLAP procedure where they tranfer tummy tissue to the breast area. And they aren't really sure but either the abdominal incision or perhaps the positioning while I was on the operating table has caused both numbness and pain in my left thigh which radiates down to my knee all the way down to my toes at times. The treatment this time is a combination of drug therapy... this time a drug originally used to prevent migaines called Topamax (also not so affectionally called "dopeamax" by those of us left feeling a litte goofy and not in good way when taking it...I have trouble spelling and coming up with the word I meant to use) and the most fun part (NOT) is that once a month they stick a needle in spine to numb the specific nerve involved in causing the pain in my thigh. Supposedly I only have to do this once more, and so far it's worked and the theory is that like the pain in my hands and feet the nerves only need the temporary break to correct themselves. But in this instance there is the numbness too which the meds and shots haven't helped and I'll address that with the docs next week. Sorry to ramble on so. I've accepted that as a five year survivor who was diagnosed in her 30s and had a recurance after less than two years I'm dealing with what will have to consider as a chronic illness for the rest of my life and it sure as heck beats the alternative BUT doctors can be very dismissive, condescending and patronizing and I won't taking it lying down! *LOL*

The whole bodypain/neuropathy doesn't last. Your oncologist will probably recommend tylenol. I didn't have problems with adriamycin but with neupogen, which caused the worst pain in my lower back (I guess you could describe it as a migrain in the small of my back). Tylenol helped. I had neuropathy from taxotere, but within 3 months of completing chemo, it was much better.
