Your little angel needs a solid bedtime routine.

After her evening meal, go through the following steps. It takes a few days to make a difference, worth persisting though. At each stage you tell "mummy and ???? turn the light down now and then run your bath" so she knows what is happening.
1. Turn ALL the light in house down low ESPECIALLY in her room. If you don't have dimmer lights buy lamps low voltage christmas lights for her room.
2. Bathtime, take her to the bath, get her to help run the bath and put toys in, keep her in the bath for a minimum of 20mins, 30mins is ideal.
3. Out of the bath, towel dry as you are drying her sing nursery rhymes and familiar songs (even if she doesn't join in!). Dry her hair with a towel gently NOT a hairdryer. DON'T have loud music or television on. Keep her audio/visual stimulus limited (mummy singing).
4. Into nightclothes, and then a warm milky drink (it's not a myth), make this a time when she can tell you about her day, even if you know all there is to know already!!
5. Off to bed. Put a lavender pouch inside her pillow. Make the physical going to bed a ritual. Maybe counting the stairs, saying goodnight to family members, blowing a kiss to a picture of grandma - a sequence of events she will eventually automatically associate with calm bedtime.
6. You MUST read stories to her, and not just one, let her choose

If she fails to stay in bed, you simply put her back. However if you have said your final goodnight and tucked her in then when she gets up you don't say a word to her, gently take her hand and put her back to bed - I know she will be persistent, you have to equal that persistance!!

This is a tough question. The age when people are the most active is 3 and between 3 and 5 children tend to be very active. What time is bed time? I would suggest setting up a routine prior to bed. Maybe you could do on a walk/do something outside (or inside) that would burn energy after dinner. After that maybe you could do bathtime and then storytime. I think that setting up a routine would be good for your child and yourself.

Another thing that you could try (on top of the routine) would be to offer incentives for good behavior. Set up a chart (maybe a pie chart with 8 slices) on the wall and fill in the slices throughout the day when he/she does something good (everything from eating nicely to picking up toys to giving you a hug, etc,) throughout the day. Once the chart is full, give your child some sort of prize. The prize could be picking something from a box (which is what I would suggest) like a small toy or a sticker or whatever (just make it something that the child would like but nothing too big). Ideally, the prize should be spending time with you and doing something fun (going to the zoo or a ball game or to the park, etc.).

Hope this helps!

Let her go outside and play. Let her run around, scream, and frolic on the playground. Many children are hyper simply because they dont get the opportunity to release all of that energy. The worst thing you can do is make a child sit down and shut up 23 hours out of the day.

My son was totally hyper at 4. The doctors told me to cut out starchy foods in his diet as well as sugars. They told me that potatoes and breads are some of the worst foods for hyperactivity. My advice is to watch the diet and try getting her to exercise (more active play) at say .. 7, so that by 8, she will have run off the excess. Good luck!

Would you have it the other way? Do you want her to sit and do nothing? During these hyper period are when she is learning at a rate she will never experience again. It is up to you to help direct her to help her learn. Maybe she has an initial burst level, take her for a brisk walk to see how far she can go without stopping. Once she stops you know how long it will take for her to wind down. So plan for you and her to exercise during that time.

Diet with less sugar... and a lot of exercise.

For example... everyday make her breakfast... oatmeal, apple & juice. Then everday at the same time, take her out to the park, let her run, jump, scream, etc. Bring her home give her a bath and maybe she'll be ready for a short nap.

Many kids have bottled up energy and makes them nervous and anxious ~ once they get it out of their system it calms them down.

This is perfectly normal for any 4 yr old, I do not believe in ADHD or any of those "disorders", kids just need more physical activities and less sugars / drugs.

1-Turn off the TV so she can wear herself out with play all afternoon, NO soda, juice, or sports drinks give her lots of water, and a well balanced meal for dinner.
2-Some kids get hyper in order to stay awake, if that's the case see answer 1.

find some activity to do for her. Like playing several games that involve running. But you know you may need to check to see if she's HDAD(Hyper-active attention dissorder), because that could be the cause, I know several friends who were like that as children and had to be on medication, but now they're able to control their hyperness, without meds.

Take her to the park and let her run it out. Any kind of physical activity will help her get it out. 4 year olds HAVE to get that energy out. The worst thing you can do is let her sit in front of the television or computer.

She is perfectly normal!
