My husband works for walmart and an opportunity has come up to go to smaller towns in Pa from Columbus, oh. We were hoping to get in a smaller town that would be more affordable with good schools in the general area of Harrisburg, pa. Does anyone have any advice on areas of Harrisburg and finding apartments that are reasonable and clean? The area we live in now in Columbus has alot of drugs and we are very tired of it since we have small children. Alot of the apartment guide websites have only the high priced stuff. Any advice?

We just moved from Ohio to PA. We are from a small town a couple of hours from Columbus. We are living in the Lehigh Valley Area about an hour and a half from Harrisburg. The cost of housing here seems to be much higher than at home. What we did was took a trip just to look around at the area we would be moving to for a couple of days. We called real estate offices in the area and they were more than willing to find rentals for us in our price range and then take us around to see them. It was a good opportunity to learn our way around and of course the agents had a good idea on which areas where more what we were looking for, which school districts were best, ect. Hope this was helpful. Good luck!!

i would suggest the hershey area... i lived there about 10 years ago... it has grown up quite abit since then ... its about 20 minute drive to Harrisburg... The cost of living will slightly higher anywhere near Harrisburg... but the area of Hershey is so friendly and they certainly have a great police force..that cracks down on drunks and drugs... one down side is the tourists.. but its a great trade off because the area is so well taken care of and the people are very friendly. Thank tourist money and chocolate sales...

I still live in PA and one down side is in general is the low paying jobs and poor government. Pa is a huge welfare state and lot of the money goes to that instead of helping business. I know Oh is very business oriented, you may miss that when you move... but Hershey is just wonderful look into it

I live near Johnstown so don't know that area.

Get someone to watch your kids for a weekend and drive to Harrisburg with your husband to check it out.

Also you can goggle the schools online. Just find out the county and there is a site that gives the stats on every PA school.

Good luck to you with your move!
