This doesn't mean that he was abused with the broom/mop/vacum! I've had several dogs from breeders who treated their dogs wonderfully and they still didn't like these items. They may just not understnd what these itmes are or they have never seen them before. Think about it, if you were a dog that size and you saw a broom coming towards you wouldn't you be a little bit threatened?

it means he wasn't introduced to them at a proper time (birth-5mo) or was abused
do stop this behavior make those stuff=good. have someone work wih you on this
have somebody hold the leash(w/ ur dog on it) as soon as u take out the mop, broom, or vacuum, have ur friend distract ur dog by making it perform tricks and feeding special treats. repeat this until ur dog is comfortable w/ u just taking it out. maybe try giving a command like calm once it gets the idea
then do this while u actually use the mop, broom, and vacuum. give the command as soon as she shuts up(stiull need a friend for this)
*dont move on until ur dog is completely comfortable

I agree 100% with 'ekaty84'. It's not always that they were abused with them, or even picked on by them. Sometimes dogs are just afraid of them. It seems to trigger a natural response in them, the same way it does in people when we see a snake or a spider, or mice. Those fears aren't always reasonable, either.

I will vouch for Boston Terriers and English Bulldogs alike, that many of them are just apprehensive of them naturally. My Bostons will actually *attack* the vacuum! I try to attribute that to their rodent-hunting instincts, though I'm not entirely certain that that's it. Maybe they see the big, noisy thing as a threat and some hide from it while others attack it to "protects us"? I have to put them all in their crates before I use it. My English Bulldog will actually crate herself when she sees the vacuum coming out. Ha!

When my litters are very small, I try to vacuum a teeny bit where they can see me, every day. Not enough to be frightening or overwhelming, though. I try to get them accustomed to it, though I haven't asked any of their people if it has worked... Maybe I'll do that. You have me wondering now. *heh*

Anyway, good luck to you, and just put your dog in another room while you're using the offensive items. You could try leaving them laying out on the floor for a day or two, where your dog can sniff them and see that they don't move on their own, so to speak. That might convince him/her that it's okay... Just pretend that they're not there. If your dog sees you being that nonchalant around them, it might help.

If you got him from a Shelter or Humane Society his previous owners might of hit him with a broom or mop. So he is not comfortable around them.

If you stop hitting him with the broom, mop, and vacuum, he will stop being afraid of them.

I've got no idea, but isn't it cute? I think that it's a problem with many dogs. I know my frenchie gets all in a tizzy whenever I'm doing the floors, but I just ignore her.
