You must have been doing something wrong. Hire an attorney. Remember that if a cop tells you to leave, leave. Sometimes, private companies have the rights to public areas for a certain amount of time and can keep people out. This why the Republican party was able to have protesters arrested off of public streets in NY. hang in there.

I don't think that you are telling us the whole story. You expect us to believe that you were just arbitrarily standing on a sidewalk minding your own business when a cop just showed up and slapped the cuffs on you for trespassing?

You can. If the owner of the business asks you to move and you refuse you get the ticket. Public sidewalk means you can use it. It doesn't mean you can obstruct or hang out all day on it when asked to move away from the business.

Pay the fine and move on. It's not the end of the world. Oh..next time.....move.

Were you loitering in a no-loitering zone? If you're not sure, challenge it in court. Police in some districts are required to pass out a certain number of tickets (a quota), in order to generate revenue for the city. Maybe someone was having an uneventful day.

Are you black? That would explain it. BTW, I'm not black.

If it is a public sidewalk, what in H was criminal? Go to court, let the judge explain it.
You could call an attorney, most consultations are free.

that makes no sense to me either, you were in a public area right? Were you protesting or something, if i were you i would take this to court because i would not pay for that, and get yourself a lawyer.Good Luck!

Loitering is illegal in many jurisdictions. Did you start sassing the nice officer when he told you to move along?

It depends on your local laws.
In some areas, if you are told to disperse by a police officer and you refuse to, you can be ticketed.
