When it breaks which should be every 3 yrs, but never really last that long. If your TV turns on then you don't need to change the bulb.

LCD bulbs only need to be replaced when they burn out.

The average lifespan for a liquid mercury bulb (which is waht they use) is around 60,000. If you watch tv everyday for 10 hours a day, it would run for a little over 16 years.
