The first answer was correct. The doctor will call in a prescription for you to pick up at the drug store a day or two before your colonoscopy procedure. Some people (depending on your doctor) start taking some of the liquid laxatives two days before the actual procedure. The next day you will be required to take the rest of it. Your food intake will be decreased and depending on your doctor's individual ideas, you might be restricted to only eat a cracker or two.

Of the day you have this procedure, your doctor can either a) knock you out completely or b) give you a light sedative (you may feel them down there, but you don't care).

A "tube like hose" with a little camera and a light will be inserted up your bum and wiggled up thru your intestines. The doctor can determine if you have any pulips up there or something else is wrong. Depending on you and the sedatives and the doctor, this procedure could last 15 minutes or 1/2 hour or longer.

Good luck to you and I wish you well. I hope I was some what helpful.

They will give you a laxative. It will make you go and go and go the night before, and then right before the colonoscopy they'll give you an enema. Then you'll be 'clear' and ready for the procedure.

Your doctor will give you an appropriate prep program for your procedure.
