It IS the taxes. The 10% rule applied to the ancient theocratic nation of Israel, it was not a command to all people for all time.

FIRST OF ALL WHERE DOES THE BIBLE TELL YOU TO TITHE 10%. When the Bible was written I don't think they had income taxes. Give what you want and can afford.

My family tithes on the income BEFORE taxes.

We used to do it after taxes but we thought we were nickle and diming God. We have things like health insurance and 401K money taken out and our final check to us was not a true reflection of our income.

Since Uncle Sam views our income as the full amout, we thought God would too.

10% of what you take home, after you pay your bills and feed your family. This money does not belong to you, it belongs to the utilities, creditors, etc.... If you can not do 10%, then do a love offering of a small amount. You should pay your tithing to a church that teaches you the word of God, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.
A church that feeds you the word of God.
