I use the chi straightner as well.
But try dividing your hair in sections and layers that way you're only straightening a small part of hair at a time and use a comb.
Comb thru the piece of hair you are about to straighten and then straighten it, it will make the hair more smoother if you comb the piece 1st.
Also make sure your hair is completely dry! And you could also use a straightening/smooth solution. You put it into your hair while damp and then blow dry and then straighten.
Most drug stores have a straightening solution: Pantene has a good one, or Dove
The best ones though are in the salons: Joico, Silk Therapy

You may be putting too much hair in it at one time. Maybe it isn't hot enough for you hair?? Just try another straightener and if that doesn't work, your hair probably needs a stronger solution. If you straighten your hair a lot and you love it, then you should get it chemically straightened. Then you don't have to mess with those darn straighteners!! On the days you want curly hair, just take a shower the night before, braid it wet, and sleep with it in. The next day, take out the braids and spray and mousse your hair! A lot of my friends do it and it looks really good!

Are you putting too much hair inside the iron when you are working with it? Is the heat on too low? You are not giving enough information to get any help with your question.

i tend to blow dry my hair first for about 5 minutes. i have seriously tight curls, so i find that blow drying it frizz's it abit though makes it easier to use my straightening iron. whateva you do DONT iron it whilst still wet!
