I have a camera now but want to upgrade. It needs a pretty fast shutter speed and good optical zoom. I want something that I can take good pictures with. I was thinking about something like a Nikon D50. Is there anything like it thats cheaper or where I dont have to buy a flash? Any ideas???

i highly suggest NOT getting a Canon...
Nikon is the best but if you're looking for something cheap, i'd go Kodak...

The new Canon digital EOS SLR, Rebel xt, is great if your budget can stand $750-950. the good thing about this digital camera is that it uses Canons lens for there regular EOS cameras, so they are easy to find and there is a very wide variety to pick from. It comes with 35-80 optical zoom, which is 4 times better than most digitals. You can get an telephoto zoom with 150x maximum zoom for $100-150 and they are so widely used that you can probably find a used one in good condition cheep.
The quality of the pictures is hard to distinguish from 35 mm.
If you need something cheaper. The Canon powershot s-410, is great at under $200. has 4+ mega pixels. 10x zoom. We own one and like it as much as my Rebel. The powershot s-510 is almost identical but comes with 5+mp's.

the d50 is not a good camera they are cheaply made and fall apart. Try a canon of some kind they are a little more expensive, but they will last longer.
