I think the key words here are "USED TO BE". People do change. If you respected your father as you knew him before you found out about his past why would you think less of him now. Unless of course he has reverted to his former life style.

yes you should still respect him b/c remember u said he used to be a gangster. its in the past, and all you can do w/the past is learn from it. and hopefully he has.

You should respect him more, from being able to experience the things he did and still be able to be there with you. After all if it wasn't for his past you may not be here now.

I would say yes. The reason why I say that is because he is your father and not everyone's past is peachy. He loves you and cares about you so let the past be the past. GOOD LUCK!
