Yes. Absolutely. Everything in the Bible is absolutely and inescapably the Reality of the Universe. If something contradicts what is written in the Bible, it must be false, because the Bible is infallible. If something in the Bible contradicts something else in the Bible, you must have misunderstood it, because the Bible is infallible.

The bible should be taken literally but if you don't believe in God and not born-again by the Holy Spirit. You're wasting your time. You must have a person relationship with God.It was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and was not a personal perspective by man nor bias. This not a religion nor primate thinking but God given evidence of his love for his creation. The Old Testament must be seen as a Historical factor and parables in the NT are moral lessons with principle teachings. The Holy Spirit must be your guidebecause the Bible mustn't be added or taken from it's context which is commanded by God in the book of Revelations. You must read the bible for ur self and not ask others on here because God is the one we all have to answer to!

I don't believe the bible should be taken literal. It is my opinion that the Bible is made up of stories by inspired people to teach us lessons on how we should live our lives. It does not matter if everything in the Bible actually happened as it is written. One example of this is the story of the flood of the earth. Does it really matter if the flood consumed the earth or if it was in a much smaller area? No, it does not; what the story teaches us would still be the same.

Well, in order to take the bible literally, you'd have to believe:

Numbers 23:22 God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

Deuteronomy 2:11 Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites called them Emims.

Judges 15:4 And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails.

Kings 17:6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

Job 42:16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations.

And I didn't even mention the world wide flood, the parting of the Red Sea, and the guy who's mother was a virgin.

Yes it should be. However, when you read through the Bible, remember that there are different writing types. The Bible contains historical content which should be taken literally (i.e. Genesis, Exodus, etc..) and others such as poetic that should not be taken literally (i.e. Psalms, Song of Solomon, etc..) As you read, you must have a discerning mind as to what you are reading.

Should not be taken literally at all. Each person should read it and take what they feel works for them away from it and chuck the rest. So many people allow others to tell them what part is good for them and they don't get the real feel for it.

the bible should not be taken as literal but it seems some fundamentalist take it that way so i would think its better off burned than taken in anyway as being a truthful book of god or even the son of god

In the Bible there are parables or stories told to get a point across. Then there are true facts of life that should be taken litteraly.

2 Timothy 2:15 - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I agree with Soar.

I also believe that when the Bible is taken literally, all kinds of problems arise.

When the Bible is read metaphorically, the deeper meanings can bring you closer to God.

Jesus walks on water, and calms the storms.

I don't believe Jesus literally walked on water; I do believe that in times of stress and fear, Jesus calms the storms in my life and brings me peace.

The Translation is as good as The people who did it. Study the Stephens Ancient Greek and know it is a Spiritual Book it does not deal a lot with Flesh.
And that Since the Same Holy Spirit, that inspired the Book ,will Teach you the truth.

hi betty-i do believe behind every fable is a kernel of truth-so far it seems to me that most of the bible is coming up true-so historically you should at least consider it and not throw it out just because it is the bible-must remember that it is wrote from a persons personal perspective and there is a lot of bias thrown in like anything else requires good judgement on a persons part to separate chaff from the wheat-lots of love old hippie here
