These rankings are very subjective. Generally, countries that are very socialistic, tend to rank higher than more capitalistic nations. That is because in the ranking, a premium is placed on low poverty rates and access to universal health care. It does not penalize countries with high tax rates. It also penalizes countries that very populous.
By the way, usually Sweden heads the list, not Canada.

If you mean the United Nations Index of Human Development, it's been off the top for five or six years now and is now barely above (gasp) the USA.

It's not the most accurate measurement, but it considers GNP per capita, literacy rate, access to clean water and a few other things besisdes.

When it ranked us #1, I thought it was a brilliant survey. Now I think it sucks... :)

It doesn't except in what is advertised by those who want to enter into the U.S. of A......Canada is a satilite state of the us of a in every way and if the economy and political problems arise we are the first to feel and suffer same.....the Europeans are trying to buy into our biggest assets in order to controll same and are being allowed to because tose in power are foolish.....And those who come here are suposedly well educated according to all reports...but then why do such 'good-manpower/womenpowers want to leave thier own country where they are on/in the top part of the $$$$$ earnings....???>....they should stay in their own country and help resolve the issues there....after all they have the education to do so .....right...???>..exactly...!!!!

It is PEI That helps that rating. The old world charm mixed with the new. the problem is it is eroding away!

it used to be, but not anymore. we've been importing too many American values, without shoring up the social programs that made this place worth living in.

1. bc they dont have beef w/ everyone in the world like the us
