The problem is not that Christians believe that the book is fiction, it's that they believe the book claims to not be fiction, and that it is a deliberate lie intended to undermine Christianity.

No sane person, Christian or otherwise, believes that the book is anything other than fiction. Some people (myself included) believe that it has some very interesting ideas that might just be true, but that doesn't alter the fact that Da Vinci Code is a NOVEL, and should be treated as such.

Because the real facts through history proves that the Da Vinci Code is nothing more than a great novel composed in the mind of the author.

One example: Jesus was sinless and would remain sinless in order to be able to do what he did (die on cross for us). Getting married and having children is not a sin, so if Jesus had, he wouldn't have been sinning. Family and eye witnesses were still alive when parts ( a good portion of) of the New Testament and the Gospels were written. If it was not a sin to be married with children, why wouldn't it have been put in? There is no logical reason for it to have been hidden. If lies were spread, and not except by the Family and Christians, maybe that is why the alleged other writings were hidden, the family could rebuke them as false.

It is only fiction, Dan Brown is a very confused man on an ego trip. May he pray for his soul!

Not only did the author plainly state it was fiction, the whole premise is based on Constantine's conversion to Christianity. There were claims that he secretly practiced his old pagan ways and perverted a lot of the symbols of different theologies into fathomable Christian "equivalents" to "sell" Christianity to his people supposedly made the pentacle into the demonically associated pentagram and etc. He supposedly "demonized" and "Christianized" an amalgamated and allegorized Christianity into something that would line up with the tenets and dogma of this new, zealous faith sweeping the land. There were claims he wasn't baptized until he was upon his deathbed when he was too weak to protest. Most Christian traditions however visualize Constantine as the finest Christian minister and convert of his day. He was even given the nickname Chrysostom, which means "golden mouth" in reference to the eloquence of his preaching. So, if the AUTHOR says it's fiction and you don't have enough faith in your own Christian teaching to know the truth (however relevant it may be in this particular case) you need to stick to maintaining your faith in God's Word and not rely solely upon the fallible word of man. Remember, the Scripture teaches that we are to "Study to shew thyself approved unto God. A workman needeth not be ashamed, RIGHTLY dividing the word of truth."

Because it IS fiction. The book is fiction. Fiction is for entertainment purposes only. Fiction takes bits of facts and rumors from real life and mixes them together with completely made-up characters to ENTERTAIN people.

I agree with everyone else, the author even said it is fiction. Also, the "facts" in the book, are fiction and were made up and have no historical proof or evidence in support of it.

Could be because even Dan Brown ( the author) admits it's fiction. And yes I do know that he hedges his bets by alluding to historical facts he included in the book.

well, the fact that the library of congress and the book's publisher and author all categorize it as "fiction" is good enough for me. if you're talking about something specific from the film or book, you'll need to be more specific because the answer depends on what part you're talking about.

Might have something to do with the author saying that it is fiction. Though there are those crackpots who wrote "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" who claim it is true. Dan Brown wrote it as fiction.

Either way I'm sick of hearing about it. Don't we have to hear about Jesus enough without conspiracy theories about him as well?
