The photos at the beginning and end of the folder are there and can be opened and edited. If anyone can help me with very SIMPLE language I would appreciate it a lot! I assumed that once the photos were downloaded from camera I would be able to use them so have deleted from the camera.

That's a shame you deleted them. I have Picture it!, but I don't know what you mean by the blue square. As long as all the photos were checked, they will download. Once downloaded, they will each appear as you choose. You can open them all at once. I don't know what you are going through. Make yourself clearer, because I'm sure once I know exactly what you mean, I'll be able to assist. Is each box shaded in light blue with a ripped square? You know caddie-corner? That means you aren't going to recover the photos, because they were corrupted for some reason. Once that occurs, you're s**t-out-of-luck. Unfortunately, I've lost some great photos that way, and I will never be able to recover them. I have those files saved, so when we come up with the technology to pull rabbits out of hats, I'll be able to get my great photos back. Like freezing a dead person for the future, to bring them back when we gain the technology. Only they're only photos.

When you open photos in Microsoft Picture It when they are blank with a blue square in upper left hand corner, you may try to recover those photos. You can see this digital camera image recovery guide which helped me get back lost photos from my digital camera last time.

Try Picasa, which is 100% free, easy to use.

A free software download from Google.
Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organised by date with folder names you will recognise. You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create new groups. Picasa makes sure your pictures are always organised.

Picasa also makes advanced editing simple by putting one-click fixes and powerful effects at your fingertips. And Picasa makes it a snap to share your pictures – you can email, print photos home, make gift CDs, and even post pictures on your own blog.
