It is a renault megane 1.9 diesel 1997. The horn starts to loose strengh, then stops altogether. I tried it again a day later and it worked for a few minutes then lost strengh and died out again. If anybody posts an answer please make it as clear as possible as I know virtually nothing about car maintainance. Thanks

As mentioned remove the cover over the horn on the steering wheel, check all wiring is in place. (Look in a haynes manual available from halfords for a diagram) If all is ok, you'll need to find the horn (Located under the bonnet at the front near the radiator, looks like 2 round discs with imprssions of smaller discs stuck together) Check the wiring for this is in contact, and it could be an Earthing problem so check all earth points in the engine (My Scenic has 8 points, but I believe yours is 6?) Finally check all fuses are in place correct and no dampness has occoured inside the cover of the fuse box? If you turn up nothing there, its best to go to your garage to get it seen to, may need a replacement horn.

A useless fact: Horns are more likely to 'wear out' on french cars that are used as a Taxi, than any other countries cars used as a Taxi in the UK!

Well, this same thing happened to a Volvo I had. The horn finally gave out. I am not mechanically inclined, although intelligent. In the middle of your steering wheel is where the horn is on most every car. There is a cover on it. Pry the cover off. If you see loose wiring in there, it may be as simple as plugging the horn wiring back into the socket. That's what happened to me and it's a start for you. Past this, maybe another person can help. Good luck.

as far as i know there must be a ring or what that has fallen off, anyway your problem sounds like that. Best thing to take it to the garage.
