There are implant chip used to Identify animals. A needle is used to place a microchip with an encoded number under the animal's skin. This number is then placed in a databank linked to your identity.

There are problems.

I got my animals "chipped" then the local animal control changed to another manufacturer. The new scanners recognized that the chip was there, but could not bring up the number.

Plus, animal control does not scan roadkill/dead animals.

On the other hand, aside from tatooing/branding, it is the only way of permanently identifying your pet.

It allows to track thing. Like get one for and animal and if they run away you can track them down and get them back.
