American society is based on the ideal of every man for himself. this produces some great successes, but it ignores the fact that humans are social beings and sometimes individuals need help from society at large. as such, there are large groups of people not only being overlooked, but preyed upon by the unscrupulous (who often tend to be the richest in society)

Poverty should not be a problem in America, but it is. Poverty causes a great degree of the crime and drug-related issues. Poverty causes poor health care. Poverty causes feelings of hopelessness and anger. If everyone had enough of everything they need, there would not be reason for drug use, except for stupidity. People who have low self-esteem are prone not to expect much of themselves. There are some people who get out of poverty, but they are the exceptions, not the rule.

Because corporations are all about greed and profit.
Used to be immigrants from the 1900's built this country. Now the immigrants are running this country.
Think about it: As long as we allow Mexicans to come across the border, the US doesn't have to raise the minimum wage nor provide loyalty to its employees.
No one gets ahead anymore because the poor are taxed to death and have no opportunities. Even though we pay taxes.
Who wants to work at a 12,000/yr job w/no hope of getting ahead?
US citizens pay taxes-the govt shouldn't cut student loans or housing for poor people or any other govt program for that matter.
Too much is being wasted on stuff we don't need like 9/11 memorials.
Meanwhile, people in the US are homeless and starving and have no medical care.

Poverty in many cases is brought on by people who feel the state owes then a living and refuse to get an education, and or refuse to work in such a way as to retain full time employment.
Some people just want to live a life of all play and no work.

Because people with money feel they are better then those who don't have money. So poverty makes it impossible for those who don't have money to be in social situations with those who do, even though they are no different. Everyone has the same basic wants and needs

People need to start standing on their own feet and working hard to get a better edication and job.
