The best thing to do for fleas on cats is to get either Frontline or Advantage. You have to get if from a vet or you can order it on line from 800petmeds.com. It is the pen ultimate best thing you can do. Both are a bit high, but I will save every penny I have to get it. I have two cats and one stays outside most of the time.
My personal favorite is Advantage. It works in 12 hours.

If your home is infested you'll have to fumigate. You can use aerosol "bombs" available wherever insecticides are sold. Be sure fo read and follow the instructions, put away all food, food bowls and water dishes, and get yourself and kitty outside while the bombs are working. This is a pain in the butt but it works.

Getting the fleas off the cat is easier than etting them out of your home. Advantage, Frontline and Revolution all work. Testing has shown that Advantage works fastest, and this might be a factor in your situation.

Do NOT use Hartz flea products!!! Last year Hartz's flea drops were banned by the US EPA because they were KILLING pets!!! They are still on sale because retailers and distributors were allowed to sell off their existing stocks.

A veterinarian is obviously the person to talk to. Call a vets office and ask for a list of the drops you can apply between your cat's shoulders. There are several brands and they can recommend one or more for you ...

They're very effective and will give your cat immediate relief. A once-a-month application will continue ensuring he/she doesn't suffer anymore.

Once you've removed their food-source, the fleas will gradually go-away, but to hasten their departure you should thoroughly clean your house - especially any furniture and the floors themselves. Fleas basically just feed and lay eggs, lying dormant unless and until they feel a food source passing-by. The longer you wait and allow them to feed, the more eggs they'll lay and the bigger your problem will become.

Obviously, I've had to fight this problem myself. You can win it and win it quickly, but you have to be focused and do everything right.

After you do the above which everyone stated, I would get "Advantage Flea Treatment" available at your vet clinic...it works GREAT!! It will keep the fleas off your cat for sure!

I know it sounds odd, but put your cat on a all meat diet....it works. The skin gives off an odor they don't like. Flea Shampoo everything:)

best products to use would be Advantage or Frontline. check with your vet - most places will sell them as a single dose so it can cut down on your cost and you can buy them as needed. be careful using over the counter products some animals can't tolerate the chemical dosage and I have seen them go into seizures and have all kinds of trouble that could have been avoided
