Recalling that time, yes I cherish those two years spent under extreme hardships. But it was a terrible experience when it was ongoing. We were planning to quit each night but just wished that next day may not be that harsh, but it always was.
Good days and excellent experience that only a good fortune can offer.

Fun? In basic training? I guess it's apparent you were in the Army. I was in the Marines and somehow the sights of Parris Island, SC in May, June and July didn't seem attractive to me at all. Very little time to make friends and yuk it up because a drill instructor was usually lurking nearby.
Once I was in the Fleet though then yes, I had plenty of friends. But during my basic training my only thought was completing training and getting the hell off that island!

Yes Basic was easy. FMSS was where it got tough though. Quasimodo was right it's totally different when you have Marine in your face everytime to try to relax. Even worse it's the only way Corpsman can train troops so they get really nasty, and make sure if your going to the field you don't embarass the Hospital Corps.

Must have done mine at the wrong time of year - it was cold, wet, muddy, rainy. The best time was a hot shower after 15 hours out in that and15 minutes of bs with the guys before lights out.
