It's NOT. There's a lot of myth and folklore, but little (if any) scientific basis behind this.
Just drink when you're thirsty. Period.

It's good for you in terms of NOT drinking other things. Water has no calories, soda, juice and just about anything else have calories, much of that SUGAR. If your average drink has 300 calories, that's about how many calories you burn running two miles at a 10 minute per mile pace.

Keeps you hydrated plus your cells are mostly water. Also, the mitochondria like to swim around and by drinking a lot of water you make them happy!

hydrates the body, reduces toxins and flushes them out. Your body is made mostly of water so it replenishes the system.
VERY good to keep hydrated esp if pregnant, can prevent preterm labor.

just like everything else you can also have too much water -
everything in moderation
i dont remember the exact number but its something like
3 L in a day - should not do more than that
otherwise it has bad effects
