you can do 4 different strokes. There is the butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle.
Butterfly is the most complicated. with each stroke you do a little dolphin kick then a big dolphin kick while bringing the arms (and elbows) out of the water.
Backstroke is simple. You lay on your back, kick your feet, and stroke your arms backwards.
Breaststroke is very much like a frog. Imagine a frog kicking, then do the same, while pulling your arms in a circle around your chest. Don't pull them back below the waist.
Freestyle- I'm sure you know what this is. You're on your belly, kicking, and you bring one arm over your head, then the other, and so on.

swimming IS excercise. Probably the best too. In the meantime...you don't "make" excercise. You "do" excercise.
