i have been invited to go shooting out on Long Island, NY. I am not a NY state resident. My host has asked that I bring some of my "assult rifles" with me. Can I transport these through NYC to my destination? Are they legal outside of the city limits?

It is legal to take them threw New York if you were travailing to another state but they are not allowed in New York.
I had some other stuff here before saying that you can take guns locked in a case and unloaded in the trunk where ever you wanted but that may not be true in NY. They have lots of gun laws that oddly don't cut down on their murder rate. (insert sarcasm here)

New York City forbids possession of an "assault weapon," which includes various specified semi automatic rifles and shotguns, or revolving cylinder shotguns. It is unlawful to possess an "ammunition feeding device" capable of holding more than 17 rounds in a handgun, or more than 5 rounds in a rifle or shotgun.
Bottom line look this stuff up because their are a lot of fascists in the north east who want to suppress your civil rights (yes owning a gun is a civil right)

No, they are not legal to transfer them between states. Assalt rifles are not legal in NY. Not sure where they would be legal, but thats a different question.
Maybe your host is trying to set you up!

I'm pretty sure that Assault Rifles are Illegal no matter where you go in the USA.
