I often read on here that all sins are equal. Then why is it the most heinous of crime is light entertainment, e.g. Agatha Christie or Murder she wrote, but paedophiles are rarely the subject of light entertainment?

Not all sins are equal! however most sin leeds to death.

The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;(Romans 8:6)

May you be blessed by the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth..
(Psalm 115:15)

First off it depends on what you believe about sins in order to know if all sins are equal. In some religions there are more sever penance for certian sins. There are also Mortal Sins or sins that are the worst. These are also the seven deadly sins. But to answer your question the difference has more to do with our culture than the weight of sin. You mention paedophilia which is obviously a sexually based crime. This is important because sex tends to be a taboo subject among the general population of Americans. It isn't often talked about out loud simply because of it's nature. This may go back to religion as well. The first thing Adam and Eve realized that was sinful was the fact that they were nude. This is immediatly associatted with sex in the mind of most Americans. And for this simple fact alot of people shy away from sex. Violence, however, doesn't tend to be as taboo a subject. It is bad, yes, but people tend to be more comfortable adressing the subject.

All sin is equal in the eyes of God meaning God doesn't see anyone's sin as more than someone else's. It's man who passes judgement on sin making some sins worse than others not God and as for entertainment...man is behind that one one hundred percent. Movies are made about heinous crimes but of course they're not light entertainment they're called drama.

Actually, it's not true that all sins are equal.

The Catholic Church teaches that some sins are venial, while others are mortal. The venial sins damage our relationship with God, but the mortal ones completely rupture it.

Both are forgivable, though.

This squares with the Bible, specifically 1 John 16-17, which tells us that "there is sin which is mortal ... All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal."

By the way, if Angela Lansbury's character in "Murder She Wrote" were a real person, I would never want to be anywhere where she was. Everywhere she turned up, someone always ended up dead!

That's are tough question as only recently the press has began to write about paedophiles. How long has been going on ?
As long as murder ? Maybe that's why is not a subject of light entertainment because perhaps it is too close at home. People may choose to ignore as if it has never happened to anyone.

Not all sins are equal.
There is the sin to the flesh. Eating foods that are not good for you. There are sins toward God.
Murder and rape are sins with no forgiveness in this earth.
We must send murderers and rapist to heaven to be judge.
Deuteronomy 19:11-13
Numbers 35:16-21

Hey,

All sins are equal, meaning that they carry the same amount of condemnation from God. See, God being completely pure and good, has to stand the same equal distance from sin, he has to be equally in opposition to all sin because not to would be God having understanding for one sin over another, which would compromise God's position on sin.

In society, we deem some crimes worse than others, depending on the innocents involved and who and how much it affects other people. Are ways of dealing with crime are different than the ways God deals with sin. His ways are not our ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts (Isa 55:8).

All sins are not equal though all sins offend God. A kid goes in a candy store and steals a bar of candy - it's not right, it's stealing but it's minor... a man cheats another out of his salary, raises rent so people can't pay, then rapes and kills a woman in a back alley. Very clearly, all sins are not equal.

Sin is a sin is a sin. God does not grade by our morals. He will however parden even the most haneous of crimes and sins if asked. God wants the "prodigal son" to return. This happened to me and I became reborn, I only became prideful and thought I did not need the God I grew up with. My life was terrible untill I came back, and now my life is blessed in many ways. Thank you God in Heaven for my forgivness!!

Yes, you are right. All sins are equal. But the law of men make them different.
