The pain and recovery time depends on how old you are. When I was thirty, I was getting tonsilitis about every six weeks and the doctor said my tonsils looked like cottage cheese. He said they needed to come out, but because of my age, it wouldn't be easy on me. I'm not trying to scare you, but it was easier having a baby. I was in terrible pain for about two weeks and my whole neck was swollen on the outside and my throat on the inside. I couldn't even swallow water without pain. I had to have liquid pain medication because I couldn't swallow pills. I also had to eat a liquid diet and lost about 15 pound the first month. But the good thing is that I never had tonsilitis again, so I'd say it was worth it. Just be prepared for the pain if you're an adult. Kids can just breeze through it and start eating ice cream and jello right away. Ask your doctor for an honest answer from his experience.

Get them out. You will be better off without them. Think of all the ice cream you will have.
My daughter went through sickness of 104 degrees temperature all the time every two weeks, missed a lot of grade school and my doctor told me that she just had a virus and to take antibiotics. Nothing helped and neither did the doctor. She went thru it most of her younger years, missing a lot of school and I finally got fed up and went to another doctor who sent her to an ear, nose, throat specialist, who said she needs them out right away. That was in 2000 and when the operation was done, the specialist stated that if she waited she could have lost 99% of her hearing cause the scar tissue was really bad. She did have a bleeder problem and had to go to another hospital to get it fixed and now she is fine, but no antibiotics with help her anymore, cause her immune system won't except it anymore.

Get them out, you will feel better and no more sore throats.

This seems to be one of those operations that the older you get, the more painful it is. Six occurrences per year is the industry standard, meaning that after six times, most major insurer's will cover your surgery.

Even with the little bit of pain, success rates are extremely high with this procedure, I would not worry as the level of pain varies from patient to patient.

It depends on how old you are. I used to get it 4 - 6 times per year. Then, I stopped getting it when I was in my mid - late 20's. Usually 4 - 8 times in one year is when they want to take them out. The older you get, the less likely they are to take your tonsils out.

You will be unconcious for the surgery. Afterwards, you will have a sore throat for about a week.

Don't forget, you are always entitled to a 2nd opinion.

Well it depends on how old you are. The older you are the worse it is. I would probably go with the suggestion on getting your tonsils out. More likely than not your tonsils will become so gross and infected that even taking your antibiotics it still won't clear them up so you will constantly have tonsillitis.
Good luck friend. take care
