I definitely think you should try, no matter how well you feel around her. She is still your family, even though you are not blood related. I'm sure your father would be very happy if you could connect with her. Respect to parents and family no matter how close you are is a very important thing in life, well it definitely is in my culture.

I think you should keep in contact with her, but it doesn't mean you have to be very close to her. Do you have half-sisters and brothers or step sisters and brothers? I would keep the connection (especially if you have half brothers and sisters) and if she decides she wants to improve relations with you, then it is your choice. I have been on both sides now, both as a step-child and as a step-mother. I would say I am pretty close to my own step-mother now and we have a good relationship, because she has resolved some of the issues that kept us from being closer for a long time. When I was small, she had the idea that my father loved me best. I really doubt it was true, but her insecurity probably drove her to try to push me out of the mainstream of the family. It was tough since my own mother died a long time ago. I have a very close relationship with one of my step children and a bad realtionship with another one.
Now that your dad is gone, your step-mom may be very lonely and hope for a stronger bond with you, or she may just turn her life in a totally different direction. Have patience and keep a polite distance, but keep the connection.
I hope you are doing well yourself. Don't let anyone manipulate you with guilt issues now or place extra burdens on you. People can really be horrible and insensitive.

If your father just passed-away, it would a kind thing to do even if it is just to send a card to acknowledge her loss as well.

You could write a letter with the card explaining how you feel and you can take it from there.

If she responds by wanting to talk to you and telling you that she did not know that this is how you felt then it would a good thing.

But if she turns around and tells you that it is none of your business in how she feels, then let it go and tell her you were just trying to comfort her as that you both loved him.

It depends. I suppose the question is, is she receptive to hearing from you? If not, don't stress it & move on. If so, try & work things out to the best of your ability. You two may never be close, but you can have a civil relationship.

I had a simular experience a few years ago. My step-mother did make an effort to keep in contact with me, so I have kept in contact with her. Had she not reached out to me, I probably would not have contact with her today.

Yes you should keep contact with her. Beacuse she was married to your father and if he loved her you should love her also. The best thing for you to is call her up, find out where she is and sit down and talk to her face to face and get to know one another.

I think you should. After all, even though she isn't directly related to you, she's still part of the family, whether you like it or not.
