It's only called the Union Jack when it's flown at sea, the correct term for the flag on land is the Union Flag, but most people don't know this and therefore get it wrong.

Everyone you are so nearly right.
It is called the Union Flag.
It only becomes the Union Jack when it is flown from the Jack Staff of a Royal Naval vessel. It must be the Jackstaff If it is flown anywhere else on the ship it reverts to Union Flag.
