Unfortunately, no. I'm sure that is very painful for the dog and I hope all goes well for you and your mom :-)

Hi, Lorenzo. My dog had the majority of his teeth out (all but the back molars) and he is just fine. Your mom should make sure that her vet gives her dog adequate pain relief, especially in the first few days after the surgery. My dog had a pain relief patch stapled to his skin, so we did not have to worry about opening his mouth to give him oral pain meds. (If the vet does prescribe oral pain medication, it can be given wrapped up in a piece of soft food, like cheese.) She should make sure that her dog has plenty of peace and quiet during his recovery, and that no one is allowed to "mess with" the dog's mouth, as it will of course be sore. She will need to feed her dog soft foods.
My dog is just as happy and playful now as he was before the surgery. The tip of his tongue hangs out sometimes, especially when he is sleepy or relaxed (for example, when he is in his bed or when he is being cuddled). It doesn't seem to bother him at all and it definitely doesn't bother us. I thought his face might look different without his teeth, but it doesn't. People don't know he's missing his teeth unless I tell them or he yawns. :)
Just tell your mom to give her dog some extra pampering, and he or she should be fully recovered within a few weeks at the most.

My dog has had to have several teeth removed but still has enough in his mouth to eat small size dry dog food. He's 12 yrs old. He gets along just fine without the teeth.

Some times small dogs have problems with their teeth and this happens often when they get older. They are fine just eating canned food but they get a little sad about the snacks/bones that are too had for them to eat. :(
