I'm not Muslim, but I am married to a Muslim and live in a Muslim country. I can tell you from first hand experience that the terrorists you see everyday on the news are not following the Muslim beliefs. My answer will be kind of long, but please bear with me and you will gain a lttle understanding of their religion. I'm not trying to convert you (as I said before, I'm not Muslim either), rather I want you to understand the truth about what they believe.
Muslims believe in One Unique, Incomparable God; in the Angels created by Him; in the prophets through whom His revelations were brought to mankind; in the Day of Judgement and individual accountability for actions; in God's complete authority over human destiny and in life after death. Muslims believe in a chain of prophets starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elias, Jonah, John the Baptist, and Jesus, peace be upon them. But God's final message to man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing-up of all that has gone before was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through Gabriel.
A true Muslim must accept 5 main articles of faith. These are known as the shahada (witness) :
lst Article : Belief in Allah as the one true God. This is a strict, numerical monotheism. A Muslim looks at the Judeo-Christian view of a unity in the Godhead with contempt.
2nd Article : Belief in angels as instruments of God's will. Mohammed allegedly received his revelation from the angel Gabriel.
3rd Article : Belief in the 4 inspired books - the Torah (5 books of Moses), the Zabur (the psalms), the lnjil (the gospel), and the final revelation, the Koran.
Muslims claim that the Koran has been kept perfectly unlike the Christian Bible. While they claim to respect the Bible, they also believe that it has been corrupted. The Muslims make incredible claims about their writings and will always compare our Bible to the Koran for testing the truth. However, many of their claims cannot be substantiated and scholars have decidedly proven them untrue.
4th Article : Belief in the 28 prophets of Allah, Mohammed being the last and the greatest.
According to Islam, there are 124,000 prophets (Note: No one has ever seen the listing of names) which comprised the history of the human race, but there are 28 main prophets which include : Adam, Noah, Moses, David, Solomon, and Jesus. Jesus is viewed as just another prophet in line with the others.
5th Article : Belief in a final Day of Judgment.
Only those who obey Allah and his prophet can enter into Heaven (hopefully). All others will be sent to Hell.
So, if one wants to become a Muslim they need to say the shahada, bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and Mohammed is his prophet. The Islamic believer must perform good works which will be weighed at the end of their life. If Allah is graceful and merciful, the Muslim will enter Heaven. However, the Koran teaches that Allah is arbitrary in passing out his mercy, and no one has any guarantee of making it. The only sure way to make it to Heaven is if the Muslim dies in a Jihad. Only then will they go directly to Heaven. This is their only assurance for salvation. This explains why so many Muslims willingly give their lives in terroristic acts for their cause.
Muslims also have 5 main pillars of Faith and they are;
1. FAITH
There is no god worthy of worship except God and Muhammad is His messenger. This declaration of faith is called the Shahada.
2. PRAYER
Salah is the name for the obligatory prayers which are performed five times a day, and are a direct link between the worshipper and God.
3. THE "ZAKAT"
One of the most important principles of Islam is that all things belong to God, and that wealth is therefore held by human beings in trust. The word zakat means both 'purification' and 'growth'. Our possessions are purified by setting aside a proportion for those in need, and, like the pruning of plants, this cutting back balances and encourages new growth.
4. THE FAST
Every year in the month of Ramadan, all Muslims fast from first light until sundown, abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations. Those who are sick, elderly, or on a journey, and women who are pregnant or nursing are permitted to break the fast and make up an equal number of days later in the year. If they are physically unable to do this, they must feed a needy person for every day missed. Children begin to fast (and to observe the prayer) from puberty, although many start earlier.
5. PILGRIMAGE (Hajj)
The annual pilgrimage to Makkah -- the Hajj -- is an obligation only for those who are physically and financially able to perform it.
As for the terrorist who kill innocent people, Islam has teachings on that as well.
First, Islam draws a clear distinction between combatants and non-combatants. Non-combatants such as women, children, the old and infirm are not to be killed. Also, monks in monasteries and people in places of worship are to be spared.
These are the rights that Islam confers on combatants:
*No one should be burned alive or tortured with fire.
*Wounded soldiers who are neither unfit to fight, nor actually fighting, should not be attacked.
*Prisoners of war should not be killed.
*It is prohibited to kill anyone who is tied up or in captivity.
*Residential areas should not be pillaged, plundered or destroyed, nor should the Muslims touch the property of anyone except those who are fighting against them.
*Muslims must not take anything from the general public of the conquered country without paying for it.
*The corpses of the enemy must not be disgraced or mutilated.
*Corpses of the enemy should be returned.
*Treaties must not be broken.
*Muslims are prohibited from opening hostilities without properly declaring war against the enemy, unless the adversary has already started aggression against them.

Islam in actuality is not a violent religion. Osama bin Laden and others have pushed it to the extremes and have distorted its practices and have created it to be violent. Similarly, Christianity isn't violent, however we have the KKK and the entire Crusade period that they participated in violent actions. 9/11 was employed by a small group of the Islamic religion and the whole religion should not be based on them.
However, I do believe that Islam is a false religion; the only true religion is Christianity and I do not say that to be harsh or try to spread influence, I only say that because that is what the Bible teaches and as a Christian, I must believe everything that it says because it is the Word of God.
Christianity and Islam have some of the same forefather, Abraham. Islam was started by Ishmael, the illegitimate child of Abraham and the maidservant that Sarah, his wife, gave to Abraham because at the time, Sarah was unable to reproduce. It was only later that she conceived Isaac.
Like many other religions in the world, Islam is just another one of the bunch. I do not have, however, any harsh feelings against any Muslims or people that are from the area of its concentration.

If you truly listened to Jesus FROM HIS WITNESSES..., (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) .., then you would realize Islam is a lie.
Islam is the spirit of antichrist, denying who Jesus really is and hence dangerous. I have said it before and will say it again and again and again..., there is good reason to believe the Antichrist comes from Islam or certainly gives birth to him.
The Prophet, Daniel was shown the future by the angel Gabriel an abomination of desolations that would sit on the Temple Mount. Lo and behold - there that evil temple is today! [DANIEL 9:27]
If there is any proof that the Bible is true it is there and in the fact that Israel just as prophesied in the Bible states.., stands in the face of all odds, despite being outnumbered by Arabs on every side and under threat night and day. Israel was reborn according to the Word of God - The Bible!
Make no mistake - Jesus is the only way to the Father. Muhammad never saw heaven..., never will. He claims false science like stars suspended in the skies by silver chains, that human beings who are non Muslims have seven intestines while Muslims have only one. He also claims the sun goes down into a muddy pond - yet you claim that the Quran is filled with science facts.
Muhammad could not read or write, could not perform one miracle. But now comes the Antichrist any day now in the guise of your Mahdi or a Caliph.., and he will cause desolations against the believers of God who stand against your Allah. It is written and your claims will not alter the Word of God - the Bible.
Unless you come to realize Jesus is the Son of the One and Only living God and is not Allah..., then you will perish in your sins.

Islam is a religion founded on the teachings of Mohamed. Mohamed became a prophet on the instruction of Gabriel the Archangel, as Mary became the mother of Christ upon the archangel's instruction too.
Islam is guided by the book, Koran, written by Mohamed. In all fairness, Mohamed instructed his people well especially in his time and cultural context. He struggled to read despite his limitations, as he was instructed by the archangel to; and his enlightenment was extraordinary. He favored peace and taught of humility. Koran is more of a book of instructions, unlike the Bible which encourages reflection; that is why there are disciplinary provisions. Still, the Koran had the best description of Mary, and, which is why Muslim women keep a high standard of morality. The best of it (for me) is that in Islam, womanhood is a virtue.
I warn us though about religiosity. Many of the objects of religion have been misinterpreted by their priests and leaders- almost all of the popular religions did. I don't exactly know for what reason, but it seems obvious that those misinterpretations were for personal aggrandizement. Well, we all know that religion binds, and a clustered mass develops power through homogeneity. In this, we must protect ourselves from manipulation and misguidance.

Well for one thing, it is definitely not It is not mainstream Islam that is promoting all the world terrorism. It is extremist factions within Islam. That is an internal problem with Islam to get all followers to promote peace.
The Islamic faith has been associated with a lot of good things in world history including the advancement of science.
The thing that bothers me about Islam is the same thing that bothers me about all of the major world religions. They believe that they are the one true faith and that the believers are God's chosen people. They believe that the world is preordained to all come to Islam. This does nothing but lead to the ongoing world tensions and instigation of wars. It does not promote world peace.
Religion divides the countries and cultures of the world. We need world unification based upon our common humanity and individual spiritual development.

In the name of God - man seems to find evil and sure as hell we will talk about it a lot OR what are sermons preaching?
Humans will always do evil as long as they feel a positive inner feeling for doing so. That is why I like to read about suicide bombers - at least society gets rid of another nut and the genes that could be past on.
If we had more knowledge we could do a bettor job of keeping evil at a far enough distant to dramatically effect us.
God is just a label for explaining away what we don't have the intelligence to comprehend.
Man is ignorant - you really think we humans are so all powerful. That one of us could be the son of God. Then what does it mean "we are all Gods children's"? Jesus performed miracles - how about just illusions - walk on water - try looking at a person walking on a sandbar.
If Mohammad was so right in his teachings - why must suicidal maniacs be the ones to spread his word?

Islam is the only true religion calls for the worship of One Creator, Allah (God).
Islam is the only religion that calls for true equality of all people.
Islam is the only religion that can achieve peace and harmony for all.
Islam is the only religion which has unchanged Book of Allah, the Qura'an, who many scholars did try to match it and failed.
Note for Debra M:
Read about the woman in Christianity and Judaism, you will find that Islam has respected woman 100 times better than Christianity.

I hear it's a peaceful religion, I'm still waiting to see it. I've read parts of the Koran (the approved Islamic version in English), I know no one immigrates to an Islamic country, that the educated leave as soon as they can. That they persecute non-Islams. I know enough, more than you I assume.

I believe Islam is a false religion that tries and succeeds at leading many Christians astray. They claim it is one of peace but any religion that encourages forced confession or permits beating you wife for any reason, is wrong and evil. Christ is the Savior and the Son of God. There is not another prophet coming to lead us definitely not Muhammad. Allah is the anciet name for a moon god and NOT the same God as we Christians and Jews serve.
