Depends on what your financial comfort level is. Consider something that has an "unknown value" like a nice picture frame or an item that's been personalized with their new married name on it... like from Things Remembered in the mall or mail-order. If they own a home, a brass door knocker with "The Smiths" or whatever... or even though it's summer, engraved Christmas ornaments that say "Joe and Jane - Our First Christmas Together - 2006" and another that says "The Smiths - 2006" or something like that.
You could also consider a framed version of 1Cor13 "Love is Patient, Love is Kind" etc or something like that... doesn't have to cost a fortune.
If you go with a giftcard of some sort... like for going out to dinner or Home Depot (amazingly popular now for new couples setting up housekeeping) I'd go about $25.
Most of all, remember that it's lovely that no closer than your husband is to this couple that you guys are honoring them and helping them celebrate their special day by not only attending, but by bringing a gift of any monetary value. They'll appreciate the fact that you came :)

Boy! Reading some of these answers , I must be living in another world. My range would be from $25 to $50 considering the relationship. This sounds like just an acqaintance so I'd say $25. Only my nieces and nephews and close friends would get $100 and that would depend on my circumstances at the time. I believe whatever your comfortable with.

Don't put yourself in debt to impress a co-worker. Check out the registry, (ALWAYS buy wedding gifts from their registry), and choose either something you can afford, or combine a couple of smaller items together.
I had a cousin who had a HUGE wedding. Since my husband is a med student, we're super poor. I went and found their wedding registry, chose several of the smaller items for their kitchen, and made a gourmet wine basket and added in the registry items. They loved it and I've since done this at a couple of other weddings where the baskets were also well received.

That's a tough one. I would suggest around $200 unless your husband is a ranking official at his company and you can afford a little more. I would not go over $500. The down side, since the person getting married works "for" you husband, they obviously have an opinion of how much you can afford to spend on them.
Personally, I think this situation puts you and your husband in a very icky position.

You are supposed to try to cover your plate! Depending on where they are getting married prices can range fro 80 dollars a plate to 200 dollars a plate. I would give at least 200 to cover you and your husband. I usually give 300.00 just beacuse my wedding is coming up in 2008 and my plates are $125.00. So i hope i get back what i give them.
