A lot of discrediting of Islam is due to the fact that most people, including so-called Muslims, don't know how to interpret the original Arabic used in the Qur'an. In the Ayah above the Arabic word translated 'to hit' in the Qur'an is not a good translation for that word. This 'hitting' can only be done after the husband has tried all other methods of reasoning as well. The reason this was allowed is because the men before Islam came about husbands in Makkah used to beat their wives whenever they were displeased with them. Some women came to the Prophet and complained about it; upon hearing it the Prophet immediately prohibited the practice by allowing women to have equitable retribution. The men where not happy about this and complained back about the prohibition. They argued that it allowed their wives the upper hand; at that point the Prophet Mohammad had another revelation which is the above ayah. Now to understand this ayah we need to look at it in the shade of the Qur'an, i.e. by comparison with the other passages in the Qur'an that call for a high standard of gender interaction and communication. What this verse did was to draw an immediate prohibition on hitting women in a complex way7.

People have misconceptions for almost everything in this life.
Christians have misconceptions about Islam and Islam has misconceptions about Christians.
This is how things should work in order for religions to guide their masses of followers like sheep.
Religions in general all extensions of Politics to manipulate human beings.
When politics fail religion kicks in takes over and finishes the job.

It is not misconception. You cannot hide truths these days. The world sees and so the opinions. If you go to any Islamic country there is no proper freedom of press. That is because they don't want the world to know unpleasant truths. Previously communism was well know in this line. Now they are exposed and you have seen what happened to it.

I studied it in college. I have a close friend who is a Palestinian with two earned doctorates who exposes Islam for what it is. Islam is a false religion started by a murderer and a thief, its sole purpose is to control the world and kill all Jews and Christians-and that is no misconception, that's a fact-check it out.

Why Islam in particular? cause oil in in the hands of Muslims "Others" (use your imagination) created Bin Laden, bombed the US so that the rest of the world will see that Islam is what the guys up there wrote (very unkind) this way oil will be controlled. Can you tell me why no other religion have been mocked? No oil there. The world revolves around money. If Muslims reacted violently to cartoons cause they love their Prophet, do you accept someone mocking the person you love? May be they overdid it, well we all have different reactions.

Most Americans knew nothing of Islam. The first most of us heard of it was when Cassius Clay became Mohammad Ali. However other than that our information on Islam has come from vicious Ayatollahs and terrorists. Just like most Americans are nice peaceful people I am sure most Islamic people are too. But our exposure to kidnappers and beheaders and bombers has certainly formed our opinion. Sorry. Maybe most of Islam needs to stand up to these people and not hide them. At least we Americans criticize our own idiots when we think they are wrong. We hear no dissension from the Islamic society for their idiots.
