When we open the door to get outside, he runs out before we can grab him. He will turn around and then he'll start running into peoples yards and everything. Sometimes it actually takes him a long time to grab him. When we get him we spank his little nose and tell him sit stay sit stay, but it never works because he keeps doing it. What do I do??

TRY THE TECHNIC OF REWARD SYSTEM.

If you say, "Sit" and he obeys then you give him a piece of cookie. He will soon get the point. And he is ready to do whatever you tell him because he already knows that he gets some cookies when he obeys.

ALL THE BEST.

If you can not get your dog to listen to you you must send him or her to doggie obidence school and they will take care of it for you. Some breeds are prone to being a pest and have anxiety and bark all the time. Look in the yellow pages and ask what they cost shop around. My dog Buddie is a great dog but if he gets out he won't come back until he is good and ready. He will rip up my garbage and others i get so mad i want to call the pound on him but i don't. The problem is he is such a good dog in every other way. He is a rottie lab mix and as ugly as they get.

if your dog escapes the last thing you should do when you finally catch him is punish him.Dogs do not associate the punishment with some thing that happened 10 minutes ago,so as far as your dog is concerned he is being punished for coming back to you!!! any reward or praise should be given instantly.try these ideas.
Always put your dog on the lead before you open the door, this will stop the problem of you then having to chase him.
Most dogs see this as a game of chase, try and stay you may aslocalm when calling your dog back to you,the louder and faster you shout and run the more excited he will become!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

If you "spanked my little nose" I would want to avoid you at all costs!! No matter how long it takes to get him back DO NOT SHOUT/SMACK HIM. Reward him when he comes to you. Let him know you have treats and praise him when he comes to get it.
I think there is more going on here. You might want to think about going to a training class, give your dog some attention when he is not "being a brat" and enjoy your dog instead of trying to order him around!!
Clicker classes are great and give your dog the mental stimulation he needs.

Get into some training classes and don't expect an overnight miracle.
Having a well trained dog takes time and effort.
They just do not come that way the owner needs to work with the dog and teach them manners.

Keep him with you on a leash, wherever you go, to remind him that you're the boss. Go through doors before he does, eat before you let him eat, and make him sit at your feet while you watch tv. With him on a leash, it'll also give him the idea that he's supposed to stay close to you. It probably won't help with him running away outside, but you'll have a little more control in your own house.

First you need to get your dog (and yourself) into an obedience programme. Look for one that does not use punishment. Your dog needs to know that you are boss. Any behaviour issues (sorry) are due to the owner, a dog learns from it's owners. Reward good beahviour, ignore bad behaviour. Use treats to encourage sitting, coming when called etc. When you dog runs away, run in the other direction, he knows where he gets food from. Good luck.

The more time you spend with your dog and talking to him, the better he will be. What breed is he? Some are naturally energetic. Punishing him for being himself wont help. Get a leash and start training him. Kindness, patience, and time will solve the problem. I have 3 min. schnuazers so, been there, done that.
