Be happy about this!! My son is 15 y/o and we are still the best of friends. He knows that he can come to me with anything. His father walked out when he was an infant so its been him and I for 15 years. His step-father gives him the "fatherly" advise and so on but the bond that my son and I have could never be replaced.
With him only being 4-1/2, its very common that you are his best friend. Don't knock it or even be worried about it.

Your son says he is your best friend because in the four and a half years that he has been here he has leaned to love as trust you as his parents and what are the ingredients for a best friend? you should be very proud.

Good For You, if you son say that 40 years later.
But at the present moment, he is still learning the notation of who is a parent, who is friend.
Give the guy sometime. Enjoy this special moment while it last.
Normally when come to teenage years, they don't want to stick with you. How often you see teenagers with parents shopping, rare.

It doesn't get better than that ! Hope you stay his best friend , I'm lucky my grand son feels I 'm his best-est friend in the world .He's older . His best friend means someone he trust , enjoys being with , or course more than a dad . Parents are just parents But friends well that important stuff .He tells you so your there for him as he is for you . He wants you to know how important you are to him and he wants to be your best freind .Who else could you have as a best friend other than your child ?

u should be happy ur son thinks that ur his best friend.i think all parents should be that way.coz then he will tell u his problems.no matter what it is.and if he is wrong u can correct him.the other reason behind it may be no-one is his friend.coz it is fishy for a boy to say that is dad is his friend coz boys are mom`s pets.but sometimes it is that way.my suggestions just be with him always.dont get harsh with him.coz very few boyz find a friend in their dad.all the best

Age has nothing to do with the strong bond a child has with his parents. Right now you are his best friend, don't question it just love it, because he will grow up and develope friendships outside the home. Then you will wonder what ever happened to me being your best friend ?
I know I even cried when my dad had to go to work, and I couldn't go with him.
Thank God for him daily. You are a blessed dad.

Because you are his dad and thats the way it should be. Would you rather his best friend be some crackhead on the street? I think not. Be proud to be your sons best friend. It is our duty as parents to not only raise our children, but to be their friends as well. Good Job Dad!!!!!
