If you can find one in a pet store, get a scratching post with bare wood, not carpet , on it.
Cats associate the carpet on the scratching post with other fabrics in the house and will scratch where you don't want it to.
The wood is their natural scratching surface but I would not recommend letting her go outside to use a tree.
Also, there are plastic sheets that stick to the furniture you can get in a pet supply store. You also may just try some packaging tape over the area it scratches to deter it .

Once we got Lily a scratching post, I noticed a big reduction in furniture scratching. You can also buy special adhesive strips that you put onto places cats scratch, so they scratch the patch and not the sofa :-)

first of all DON'T get your cat declawed! it is mean and unnecessary. you can get double sticky tape and put over where your cat likes to scratch. that stuff is call I believe soft paws. there are caps that you can put over their nails. those I believe are called soft claws. There is the spray bottle method if you catch the cat scratching the sofa spray the cat. I'm assuming that you do have a scratch post. Maybe get another one, and put it right by where the cat likes to scratch. another thing, trim your cat's nails and keep them short.

if he's doing around you make a hideous high pitched squarking noise whenever s/he does it (loud and screechy as you can). Also as people have said scratching posts will give him something else to scratch. If you squark at him though, be careful not to put the post so near the sofa that he/she thinks they are the same and that he will be punished for both.

Get one of those carpeted "towers," with the different levels and spaces for the cat to hide in--that will be an exciting distraction. You can also buy these cardboard type boxes that cats can use to scratch. Also, use some catnip! Get some little mice-like toys and rub catnip on them...

You can't - even if you let it go outside and sharpen it's claws on trees. Cats will be cats.
The scratching posts that you see around for cats, only work for a short period of time. When they get bored of the post they will go back to tearing the furniture to bits.

DO NOT DE CLAW YOUR CAT!!!!
Try getting a scratching post or a water spray so you can tell him/her off. We shut our cats out of the living room when we are not in, so they are only in there under supervision!
I would never de claw a cat as it is cruel and just not necessary. Imagine someone pulling your fingernails out - not nice!!
Hope you sort it out

First go to petco and get a cat tree were your cats can take care of his or her claws , second go to the dollar store and get your self a squirt gun, take home and fill it up with cool water and squirt your cat and those two items will solve anything !

You can buy some spray which keeps pets away. My sisters cat was scratching their new carpet so she bought this spay, from a pet shop and it worked.
