In the Uk we pay most for fresh local foods and less for processed foods. In the rest of the world it is the other way around.

Have you thought about going strawberry, blueberry, gooseberry etc...? picking as they have special farms where the public are aloud to go and pick these things and give a small donation or something plus you get your fair share of excerise whilst doing this and it saves people having to go to the gym. If your lucky enough to have your own garden you can also grow your own veg which should be ready for the summer so you can save money then and then in the winter you can buy it. I find here in England the asian shops specialising in Indian, chinese etc... food are a lot cheaper then a local supermarket so maybe you have something like these shops in Ireland.

too true, however if you head to the markets you'll find things to be much cheaper. Supermarkets make billions because they offer convienence, but if you think about it a single trip to the market for fruit and veg once a week isn't that difficult.

yah I agree.the reason is bec healthy organic foods are not massed produced like the regular foods that is why they put a premium on it, plus not everyone eats healthy so the price for organic are higher since it also has a limited target market

Healthy foods are difficult to obtain and hence they are expensive.
Also some foods are grown or made in far off places, thus their transportation costs make them expensive. People are forced to sell their items in high prices to to these problems otherwise they would have to suffer losses.

both are roughly the same except when it comes to protein. ALMOST ALL veggies include a respectable amount of protein; fresh fruit does not.

what is healthy? fruits and vegitables are not that exspensive (at least in the U.S.A) as to cause one to not buy them. fruits and veggies with every dinner for I (fast food doesn't help me come lunch)
Organic foods are exspensive, they also often come as prepared items, but if you buy raw ingredients you can make things for cheap and they will be as healthy as you want thme to be.

People cash in on fads....it's a shame really. But to be fair if you grew your own [organic!] food then you would save a lot but most people don't have the time or patience.

It's not if you buy raw stuff and cook at home. Are you talking about Organic stuff...that sure cost more for marketing.
