When you say third finger, do you mean middle finger? If yes, then your middle finger should be longer. However if by third finger you mean ring finger, than the comparative length of the two fingers depends on the amount of testosterone you received while in the womb. Apparently if you received a fair bit of testosterone your ring finger will be longer than your index finger.

Actually this is quite an interesting thing. The length of your index finger and ring finger (next to your little finger) is based on the levels of testosterone and oestrogen in your bloodstream whilst you were in the womb. I am sure only for males but your index finger is testosterone and should be comparitively longer than your ring finger. The closer your ring finger is in length to your index finger means you had greater levels of oestrogen, and it would be abnormally high if the fingers were of equal length or within 1/10th of a cm. for girls I don't know what the lengths should be.

Some scientists have tried to link foetal hormone levels to homosexuality, but with no sucess, greater or lower oestrogen in males shows no correlation to homosexuality, and in girls there is only a slight percentage corelation between lesbians being a "femme" if they had more oestrogen, but the percentage is a long way from being proven.
