Have you tried your local library?
If you live in a big enough town, it's likely your library runs language conversation sessions, where people just meet up and practice talking.
If there's a college or university near you, you're really likely to find those sorts of sessions running every week.

i was in the navy where I got to see japan and I started to learn it. I took some class when I got back here in the USA. But, I didn't like it I met someone and somehow (somehow is that I was teaching japanese as a student teacher) got a roommate from Japan and then two more and nothing for 20 years and then met some more and got started more seriously and went to college and had friends from Japan and worked in a Japanese resturant and studied hard for years and years. Search the websites of your local universities and colleges, sometimes they have adults courses in Japanese. If they offer different levels though, go for beginners! You don't realise how little those books teach you until you find yourself among other people who know much more than you!
; )

Through those, you're more than likely to meet some people who are happy to meet outside the class, and you can practise on each other! You might even find that they can introduce you to Japanese people studying at the university, then you could practise your Japanese on them, and they could practise their English on you..!

Try to mingle with the Japanese community in your area… restaurants, colleges. I’m sure you will find lots of Japanese students at English language schools… definitely they will be happy to have you as a friend (u teach them English, they teach u Japanese)… i advice you to try it.
