Sometimes tea has become too strong and tastes bitter; adding extra hot water does not help because the bitterness is due to the presence of certain substances which wouldn’t be there if the tea leaves had been taken out in time. Is there nevertheless a trick to restore the normal taste of the tea? (Maybe that trick does not work for all types of tea.)

I know this sounds dumb but put a half of a raw potato in it while it is still warm/hot, the starches absorb the bitterness.

That's why some people add milk. That tones it down. Sugar or honey help also. Don't overbrew again if you can help it.
