My dog is about nine months old (she was a shelter dog) and is a big chewer, which isn't a problem I just need to find something that will last her awhile.

Yeah go to your local pet shop and buy a KONG, they are great & come with recipies too (they also promise to buy it back off you if it gets damaged too soon)! There are different sizes for different dogs. My Shar Pei is on is 2nd one and he loves it to bits, he carries it every where with him!

I would suggest a very large dog bone. I have a six month old doxie, and she is chewing everything. I have this purple ball, and two other doxie's, and it has lasted through them, but the pup, well she is chewing it all up. I have also boughten one of the Kong treat things, and she is chewing that also. She eats rocks, leaves, sticks, anything she can get her mouth on. I am constantly after her for chewing. I have these hard rubber toys that look like bar bells. So far they are holding up. She is just more of a chewer then the others were. The dogs bones, and pig ears are good things to have. You will just have them all over the house like I do. Have to keep them busy, so they don't chew my chairs. She also chews on my rugs So make sure you keep a lot on hand, so this doesn't happen to you. Good luck with your dog. My husband said we should have named our dog Chewy. Have a nice night.

A real "Kong" (not a cheap alternative) is the best. I can never never recommend Nylabones or Gummi bones for an aggresive chewer. In 2000 Nylabone settled with me before I sued them because I choose the one that is suppose to be for aggresive chewers and pieces broke off and got lodged in the intestines of my dog (he was a show dog but a house pet) I took him to the vet imediately but he had to be put down after 3 days because lack of fluid flow to the intestines killed them.

I know it was a Nylabone because I had the vet to a necroscapy on my dog. He removed the pieces of the bone fromt he intestines I called Nylabone and Sent them a piece along with the vet results. They were very very very fast to call me.

I also took the results to my local Pet supply store who stopped selling the bones in question.

I know have a very aggresive chewer chocolate lab I have the black kong and stuff it with goodies for him. He has had it a couple of months and is yet to break a single piece of it off. Once it starts to wear you just need to get another one.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To the guy below me..Nylabone did not think it was dumb when the pieces where removed and they paid to replace the dog and all of the bills.....hmmmm now let me think.....if they were perfectly safe they would never have contacted me so quickly would they...nor would they pay all the bills...

It is perfectly fine to give your dog rawhide bones. I wouldn't give the chips, but the bone shaped ones are safe. I don't believe some people on here who want you to think they work for a vet and see dogs come in having to have them removed or die from them..

Not only have I asked mt personally (who says they never get them in) but I researched it for a long time.

I own 10 dogs, and have been a breeder for 25 years and I give these rawhide bones to my dogs and pups and I have NEVER had a problem, EVER!!!!

The only thing you have to watch for is they contain a lot of calories and that ads up.. Only one of my dogs got a little weight gain from them, so she is now limited..

I only allowed these chewed while I am in the house. And if they get down to a small piece, I DO take it away.

Bones are better of course, especially the knuckle bones, they can chew forever... Feed it raw though and replace it once a week..You can get the large ones and have the butcher cut them in half

I would get her a really big (real) bone, with all the marrow goodness still intact, this will be great for her teeth, and should last quite a while, even for a serious chewer.
As a little tasty project for her inbetween, try a dried pig or cows ear. They look pretty nasty, but should keep her entertainted for ages as they need softening before ripping and chewing.
Even my cats love a good ear !!

get her a nylabone at petsmart. they last like forever and cost about 10 bucks. they even clean the dogs teath. you can even buy different flavored ones!and rakel is dumb! they cant break if you replace them when they get worn down to a certian spot like the directions say! and you know that a peice of rubber can fall off of an old kong toy that has been chewed on and do the same thing!my dog chewed apart a kong brand chew that was brand new!

Kongs!! Wal Mart has just come out with a cheaper alternative to the real "Kong". They run about $4 to $6 depending on the size of dog you have.

You wouldn't want to leave a bone with the dog while you are not home. They can get it down to small parts and choke on them.

When I first got my dog he chewed through most every toy I gave him. Finally I discovered sterilized beef bones at the pet store, it really takes all the abuse a vigorous chewer can dish out! Nylabones are also great they takes lots of abuse! good luck with your pup, enjoy!

Nylabones and the Galileo bone are safe and they like them. DO NOT GIVE rawhide!! I work at Vet clinic and we remove large chunks of this crap from dogs stomachs and intestines at least once a month. Very expensive surgery and some die.

A good, strong rubber ball can provide hours of chewing fun. They also have some really tough chew toys at most pet stores.
