View hidden files by going to My Computer, then clicking on Tools, then clicking on Folder Options, and checking the box that says "Show Hidden Files and Folders."
You can hide a file by right-clicking it, selecting Properties, and checking the box that says "Hidden."
You can search hidden files by opening My Computer, hitting CTRL + F which opens the Search feature, and editing the "More Advanced Options" to include hidden files and folders.
Regarding your excel file password, you can protect your excel file using password...
The method is as follows:
Open the excel file (the same file you want to be password protected).
Go to Tools menu, click on options, under options, go to security tab, there you can specify the password for file to open and also you can set the password for file modification as well..

Yes you can hide the single file.
There are various ways you can view the hidden files..
Open Windows explorer (My computer), go to tools>Folder options, in vire tab, there is a radio button, which reads:
"Show hidden files and folders".
Make sure that the radio button is highlighted and then click OK to the box.
On the other hand, you can view the hidden files through DOS (Disk Operating System) as following:
c:/dir /h
/h is a switch using using which you can view the hidden files in DOS.
Also, to hide the folder, right click on the folder and click on properties, In the general tab, under attribute table, there is a check box that says "Hidden".
The folder will be hidden and this is the same way, you can hide the file as well.
Regarding your excel file password, you can protect your excel file using password...
The method is as follows:
Open the excel file (the same file you want to be password protected).
Go to Tools menu, click on options, under options, go to security tab, there you can specify the password for file to open and also you can set the password for file modification as well..

To hide a file : right click the file and select the properties option. In the properties tab, check the hidden option.
To view a hidden file: go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View Tab->Show hidden files and folders.
If you've enable viewing hidden files, then you will be able to see them even while searching.
