Because whether you accept it or not, words are very spiritual and shape peoples minds and emotions. So that's why we should be careful how we speak to one another.

Contrary to the sticks and stones rule, words can hurt, but used in the proper way, they can also heal. AMEN???

They're probably offended that you think they agree with the use of such extreme words when the situation in no way warrants them. I could see saying sh*t when you're in an airplane plummeting into the ocean because you pulled the wrong lever, or if your wedding band falls into the toilet as it's flushing, but using sh*t the same way you would use the word "stuff"? The word is completely and totally out of place.

Because some of the smallest words carry the most meaning. Take the word "hate", four letters have caused some much pain & suffering in the world, it's unbelieveable. As far as your swearing, I think that its unnecessary/vulgar and you really need to work on that.

First you say you swear alot, then you ask what's so offensive about a few words? My suggestion to you is to get someone close to you record your normal conversation and have them play it back to you. You might be surprised.

Words can be more sharper and hurtful than mere acts... you know!!!
You may not find your swearing offensive but others might because they may not accept it as the right way of talking because it's down right rude...

People are offended by crass language and behaviour, because there is no need for it.

If a person cannot express herself or himself in a civilized, articulate manner, then they should just remain quiet.

To me its a form of disrespect. If you were talking to a police officer you might not curse, if you were talking to your parents, you might not curse. If you are asking for help/money you might not curse, so people are offended because you are not extending a courtesy to them.

words don't offend, the lack of respect does.

I don't know because personally, sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.
