We are baptists and were deeply hurt by this attitude.

Well, let me tell you one thing, today there is a need to propagate more and more ecumenism. I am a Catholic, but i love attending Protestant worship, Pentecostal conventions and Baptist programmes and Catholic mass, everything. It's just the same, only the mode of worship is different. I'd say you have a nice, peaceful talk about this to those Catholics. Many of them DO understand. I think, instead others think wrong of Catholics that they wordhip idols. We too believe in the TRINITY only. As far as the pictures and statues of saints are concerned, we just honour them, that's it. No worshiping them coz they were human too. And we never ask them to have mercy on us, instead to pray for us only, to the Lord.
They shouldn't be any problem on the name on denominations of Christianity. We're all one. Still, that is not at all necessary, a Christian needs no mediator. We have a God to communicate with.

You do tell the ages of the children involved. Up to the age of ten or twelve the differences in tradition and interpretation between our faiths would not confuse kids.

How ever once kids are into middle school and they are learning deeper truths, being thrown in with another Christian denomination without parental guidance could be very confusing.

Would you have let your children go to a Catholic retreat without parental guidance? Probably not.

I am sure there was no personal insult intended but as parents they must do what they think is best for the child.

With love in Christ.

There is a century old division between Catholics and Protestants (that means baptist, Methodists, Presbyterians, etc) many Catholics do not see themselves in any way connected to Protestant believers. Unfortunately, they are incorrect. The difference between Catholic and Protestant are mostly in regards to traditions and not theology. Both agree that Jesus Christ is the son of God who came to earth, died and in three days rose again. Both agree that is is through Jesus, alone, that salvation will occur. Both agree that the Bible was written by God. (Catholics believe in a few more books then the Protestants) My advise to you is to not get hurt. Do they love Jesus as there Lord and savior? If they do then you don't need to try to "convert" them. Just be happy that you all will worship Christ in heaven. If Jesus isn't the Lord and savior then try to show them Christ's love through your actions. Actions speak louder then words. Don't beat them up for not following Christ. Many "Protestants" do not have Jesus as there true Lord and savior. Remember, God looks at the heart and not the outward words.

It's not really a matter of being Catholic that brings this about. It is your kin's personal preferences. Catholics do not have any regulations on this. Probably your kin are afraid that their children may learn something contradictory to their own beliefs.

For the same reason my protestant husband was not allowed to participate in a Catholic communion while attending his nephew's graduation. Often times someone's narrow-minded views will interfere with the bigger picture. Many people dwell on the differences in their denominations rather than the similarities. Also, some people treat their denominations as the one true religion...rather than variations of the same Christian religion. They forget that, as Christians, we all serve the same God.

Because the parents of the children at this point in their life have the say so in what they do when they do it, and what beliefs and morals are instilled in their child, they probably feel very strongly about their beliefs and dont want their child what they believe to be mislead or confused by having two different religions taught to them. WHenever the child is older he will be able to choose what is right or wrong for them, but until then the parent is the one in charge.

I would recommend that that you read the King James version of the Bible. It contains the answers to your questions.
God the Father knew you before you we born in eternity past and when you were formed in your mother womb. We are born with a Soul that will live for eternity. We must decide as a free will agent to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior or not.
Our decision determines whether we spend eternity in Heaven or Hell.
I Pray that you make the right decision.
Jesus Christ Loves You.
God Bless you is my prayer.
David

Because they are being intolerant. Would you let your kids go on a Wiccan nature-learning outing, or would your parents let your brother? Probably not. Everyone has their prejudices, and you've discovered one of your relatives has a prejudice against your version of Christianity. You probably need to just not invite those kids to that sort of thing anymore.

Because Christians really hate each others' beliefs and hate the beliefs of others.
Its either my Jesus is better than your Jesus, or my trinity is better than your trinity, or my saturday is better than your sunday, or my pork is better than your beef, or my Jesus-God has a Mother of God while your Jesus has no Mother of God, and so they all condemn each other to the Hellfire yet they want everybody else to see them as nice little children of the God who died so that they all are incapable of sin, no matter whose wife they covet or whose neighbour's goods they covet or what they steal from each other.
We are all peaceful lovin lil' Nazarenes.
Now, dont accuse me of inciting hatred or violence when it was Jesus who said, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth. I came not to send peace but a sword."
And there were two swords in the Garden of Gethsemane and this martial arts disciple cut the ear of the servant off in one swipe or swoosh, in the darkness. What a swordsman!
So there it is. Ask me another!
Voila!
